August 21st, 2009...

So i had to make a journal entry about this day because life has not been quite the same since then! This particular Friday the boys and i started our day as usual and headed out to do a little garage saling to find winter clothes. I happened upon a gold mine and brought home several outfits for Andrew as well as crib bedding for the baby. We had found this table beside the road for free the day before and the boys were enjoying a snack outside. I took this picture and a few minutes later picked up Jack and felt something warm gush out. I was quite surprised to see that it was blood coming out of me - not something you expect at all, especially at 17 weeks. I called Stephen home and spoke to the doctor who said to just lie down for a bit. But after an hour or 2 the bleeding continued and the blood starting coming out rather quickly. Some kind ladies from church came over to be with the boys and Stephen and i headed to the ER. It was such a strange feeling - we were trying to be light but knew to expect the worst. The wait in the ER was the worst - it took us 2 hours to get a bed and we had so many thoughts go through our mind as we waited. After i changed pad after pad, i finally looked at Stephen and said "Stephen, i know i am loosing this baby" and he said "i know". We both cried some and i just prepared in my mind that this baby was coming out in the next day or 2. We prayed and asked God to help us through what was to come. We finally got a room and saw random medical people - they didn't really know what to do with us since i was more than 14 weeks along but not far enough along to go to Labor and Delivery. Finally a nurse came in and said she would check for the baby's heart beat. I felt nervous for her - it seemed like a rough job to have to tell us she couldn't find the heartbeat. But then, first try she found it and we were amazed!! Actually, we didn't know what to think at first because we still didn't know how long the baby would live. We thanked God and as the night went on and we got sent this place and that, the news just kept getting better. Finally, we were able to see our little girl for the first time (not too surprised about the girl part! We seemed to know that from the beginning). There was a sizeable blood clot nearby but not at all interferring with the placenta or baby. Wasn't any better news that we could expect!! We went home full of joy and thankfulness to God - wow, what a day to remember!!

Andrew looks so proud to be with Jack at that table! :)

I cried reading this post. What a scary time for the two of you. I just can't even imagine. Thank God for His wonderful work.

Wow, thanks for sharing the details Rachel. I didn't know lots of the emotions (I assumed, but didn't know) and what led up to the bleeding. Can't wait to meet this little girl God's forming within you. Thanks again for all your hospitality this last month (and years :0)) This weekend will be weird, not seeing you guys :-)

We thank the Lord for protecting you and your baby girl!! Was it a blood clot that burst, or a "vanishing twin" or something else?

We love you guys, and have you in our prayers.

thanks everyone for the response! Jen, the clot was probably caused by a bleed or tear in the placenta from best guess! A undeveloped twin was my initial thought when i saw the ultrasound!
